15. Roku Jizo

Went to Gyoganji temple in Isumi, to see a transome engraving "Waves" by a local carver dedicated to shrines and temples, called
Nami no Ihachi (Ihachi of waves).
The picture is 6 gurdian deities for children (originating from Ksitigarbhas) in the temple precinct.
It is said that the motif of "Great Waves off Kanagawa" in Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" originated in the transome engraving by Ihachi.

14.@Welcome back
Last spring, a familiar figure appeared again in the garden. It had not been seen for nearly 10 years.
Azuma (eastern Japan) toad. It is completely nocturnal and not seen in the daytime, except at an early spring.
I checked the traditional selling phrase of a "toad ointment". It goes that
- - - this is not an odinary toad, but an four-six toad that has grown up at the foot of mount Tsukuba by feeding on the herbs called onbako. Well, by which, are the four-six, the five-six discernible? That is 4 fingers in the front leg, and 6 for the rear. Combining these, we call the toad "four-six toad" - - -.
The second picture, too, shows 4 fingers at the front leg. An anatomical study, however, tells us that both the front and rear legs have five fingers.
